The "Next Unicorn Project" is a project carried out by Gangwon Land in cooperation with
local governments (formerly the Balanced National Development Committee),
the Small and Medium Venture Business Corporation, the Korea Mining Industry Corporation, the Korea Small and Medium Business Agriculture and Fisheries Cooperation Foundation, and four cities and counties in the abandoned mine area in Gangwon Province to promote economic development in abandoned mine areas.
The recruitment targets are those who graduated from the Youth Start-up Academy
of the Small and Medium Venture Business Promotion Agency and those who
wish to apply can apply through the Youth Start-up Academy website by the 18th.
Kangwon Land and its affiliated organizations plan to select three final next unicorn companies
by December this year through open competitive selection methods such as document screening, finals,
corporate consulting, regional surveys, and finals.
Each of the three final selected Next Unicorn companies will receive up to 1
billion won in regional relocation support, and depending on conditions, they will
receive benefits such as preferential support for alternative industrial loans from related
organizations and local governments, support for business safety programs for small and medium-sized companies, establishment of balanced development networks, support for linking win-win programs, and linkage of projects related to abandoned mine areas.
At least one of the headquarters and factories must be relocated or newly
established to an abandoned mine area in Gangwon Province within three years and operated for at least five years. Through this, it is expected to contribute to revitalizing the economy of abandoned mine areas by relocating youth companies and creating new jobs.
Meanwhile, the Next Unicorn business began in 2019 and marks its fifth anniversary this year, and 12
companies selected so far are relocating to the region.
